SB 605 -- PUBLIC TRANSIT SALES TAX
SPONSOR: Coleman (St. Onge)
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Local
Government by a vote of 11 to 0.
This bill specifies that any transportation sales tax approved on
or after August 28, 2007, by the voters in either the City of St.
Louis or St. Louis County will not require approval in both
jurisdictions to become effective.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2008, FY 2009, and
FY 2010.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will make it easier for
either the City of St. Louis or St. Louis County to pass a
transportation sales tax.
Testifying for the bill were Senator Gibbons; City of St. Louis;
St. Louis County; and St. Louis County Economic Council.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
